A group of American civil war soldiers together with a woman (Danielle Calvert) and her daughter (Gabrielle Anwar) escape from a prisoner of war camp in a ballon, but crash land on a remote island. Part of the group battle giant monster and the elements whilst their leader (Kyle MacLachlan) meets up with Captain Nemo (Patrick Stewart). The film is loosely based on the Jules Verne novel. Whilst it has a good cast, it is let down by the poor effects, especially the poor monsters.
